To celebrate Fraser's 65th birthday in 2007, we are inviting people 'Back to the Old Country' for what we hope will be a very special - and fun - symposium, which will be hosted by the School of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh. The theme, requested by Fraser, is 'The Young(-ish!) Giants of Chemistry', i.e., the people who are leading and shaping the course of science, but are at least a generation younger than him! To fulfill this brief, the following Plenary Lecturers have been assembled:

Takuzo Aida (Tokyo)Miguel Garcia-Garibay (UCLA)Takashi Kato (Tokyo)
Harry Anderson (Oxford)Reza Ghadiri (Scripps)Steve Loeb (Windsor)
Geert-Jan Boons (Georgia)Dirk Guldi (Erlangen)Chad Mirkin (Northwestern)
Neil Branda (Simon Fraser)Craig Hawker (Santa Barbara)Tim Swager (MIT)
Alberto Credi (Bologna)Jim Heath (Caltech)Karen Wooley (St Louis)
Makoto Fujita (Tokyo)Chris Hunter (Sheffield)Omar Yaghi (UCLA)

- We shall also have short talks (if we can fit them in!) and certainly poster sessions.

- The Symposium is open to all, but particularly Stoddart group alumni and their students and the many friends of the Stoddart group over the years. It will not be widely advertised.

- There will be a small registration fee of £50 (about US$100) which we intend to donate most or all of to the Norma Stoddart Prize for Academic Excellence and Outstanding Citizenship at UCLA.

As well as a fantastic line-up of speakers, the chance to celebrate with Fraser and meet up with old friends, Edinburgh is a beautiful and historic city and June sees Scotland at its very best. We look forward to welcoming you to Auld Reekie in June.
